How To Tweak Google Chrome Browser To Use Less Memory

When using Chrome, the browser will perform a new process every time a user opens a new tab, just as it does in the current version of Internet Explorer. Each tab when active will use a process of its own memory processing. This ensures that your usage can be continuous, but using too much memory will be a problem if the users device is not configured properly.

However, you can fix this problem by following the instructions below, by checking how many processes Chrome is using when operating by opening Windows Task Manager and performing customization. .

- First, look for the Chrome browser shortcut on the desktop screen or navigate to the location of the application stored on your device.

- Right click, select "Properties"

- The "Properties" dialog box appears, select the "Shortcut" tab, then in the "Target" you insert the command -process-per-site as shown below.

- Close and restart the Chrome browser. 

- Your computer now uses less memory than before, users can compare the use of the machine before and after the implementation of the "Processor" in the Windows Task Manager (press the key combination) Ctrl + Alt + Delete).

This customization has 3 different modes:

--process-per-tab: This mode is the default. Each time a new tab opens, Chrome creates a separate process for that tab.

--process-per-site: This mode Chrome will run every website as a process.

--single-process: This mode is all tabs that run on only one process.

For example, if you open on Chrome 4 tabs include: 2 Facebook tab, 1 Google.com tab, 1 Gmail tab.

Mode --process-per-tab: Chrome will create 4 processes.

Process --process-per-site: Chrome will create 3 processes.

Mode --single-process: Chrome will create a process.

Hardest Game Play is available in the Google Play Store

 
Yeah~ Hardest Game Play is now available in the Google Play Store. So far this is my second Android Game after the Quoridor Board Game. Unlike the board game, the "Hardest Game Play" is a game of puzzles solving, in which there are 25 stages in total. In each stage, all the player needs to do is to find out the "Play" button, precisely the one in the black color as shown below:

Each stage in the Hardest Game Play presents a different kind of puzzle (and different level too). To go to the next stage, the players have to solve the puzzle and touch the play button (pretty intuitive right?). After completing all the 25 stages, an assessment will be made based on the total number of the Touch used by the players throughout the game. The lesser the touch, the better the grade.

There is one important point to emphasize here: NO instruction is given throughout the game. With only Touch and Drag, the players would be able to complete the game. To use the touch as minimum as possible, problem solving skills, dexterity, accuracy and consistency are required. Of course, practice makes perfect. :)

There is one good news. On and above the version of v1.0.4, the Hardest Game Play has included a "Trial Mode". The stages of higher difficulty are picked as the trials. If you are able to complete all the trial stages with the 3 stars rating, you would be probably able to do well in this game.

Note:

• The making of the Hardest Game Play is inspired by the Flash Game "Click Play". However, the former interprets the user activity as Touch instead of the Click due to the game play in different platform (mobile devices vs desktop)
• Again, thanks to the TexturePacker. Without such a efficient and user-friendly tool, this game wouldnt be able to be released within such a short period of time.

Seriously, the Gmail message with this title "Security Alert: You are using a highly vulnerable version of OpenSSL" freaked me out yesterday. Below shows the details of the message:

Hello,
One or more of your apps is running an outdated version of OpenSSL, which has multiple security vulnerabilities. You should update OpenSSL as soon as possible. For more information about the most recent security vulnerability in OpenSSL, please see http://www.openssl.org/news/secadv_20140605.txt.
Please note, while its unclear whether these specific issues affect your application, applications with vulnerabilities that expose users to risk of compromise may be considered “dangerous products” and subject to removal from Google Play.

I am sure I am not the only one suffering from this threatening message. A quick search brings me to this Adobe AIR forum thread. From my understanding of the discussion in the forum, it is the inconsistency of the OpenSSL version in the apps that triggers this unfavorable announcement. As noticed,

OpenSSL 1.0.1 SSL/TLS users (client and/or server) should upgrade to 1.0.1h.

However, at the time of writing, the Adobe AIR 14 only deploys the OpenSSL 1.0.1g, which is still potentially not the qualifying version. Meaning? Most of the Adobe AIR developers are affected.

What is worse is that, Google Play doesnt provide any timeline info about how long the buffer is before taking any action. Meanwhile, the Adobe AIR staffs couldnt promise an exact date for another stable and problem-free release. THAT MAKES THE CHAOS!

We realize the potential harms due to the outdated OpenSSL applied, and the urgency to update the apps as soon as possible. However, at the same time, we hope the Google Play could be more polite and transparent in conveying the message to us. For example, which apps are affected? And what is more disturbing is that, we have no idea whether the OpenSSL issue could be be caused by other dependencies such as the third-party Adobe ANE.

What to do now? Lets keep our finger crossed and hope the Adobe AIR could update us as soon as possible...

Update on 2014-06-20 
The latest Adobe AIR 14.0.0.125 with the updated OpenSSL 1.0.1h is available NOW. Although it is a beta version, it has at least solved the "Security Alert" issue.
