Call for Submissions
At the moment, were looking for RPG adventure modules that arent tied to any particular campaign setting, either using the AD&D 1st Edition/compatible or D&D 5th Edition systems. We are not looking for settings or rules supplements. Submissions should not have been previously published elsewhere, but we can make exceptions in special cases. Please contact us with details.
Please do not send in proposals or multi-adventure series. We are looking for finished self-contained adventures, but that doesnt mean they need to be able to be wrapped up in a single session - longer adventures are okay. Plot-driven, location-based, and sandbox styles are all acceptable. You do not need to have polished cartography, but preference will be given to submissions that have been playtested more than once.

Game 4 Déjà Vu Death Comes in Pink and Blue
I can now categorically say that Déjà Vu is a challenging game made more difficult by unreasonable time limitations. I’m gradually getting one step further before dying from whatever it is I’ve been injected with, at which point I reload (or start the game again if I think I can do things a better way) and try to get back to that point as fast as humanly possible. This harsh time limit, as well as the way the game is constantly reminding me that the cops are right on my tail, is basically causing me to rush and panic through scenes rather than investigating things properly the way I’d like to. The CGA pixel hunting is without question the main source of frustration though, as items are all but invisible in the highly pixelated shades of pink and blue. Since I last posted, I’ve gone through each screen like a fine comb, trying to find any small items that evaded my attention the first time around. I’ve found a few too which makes me wonder what else I’m still not seeing!
I might have seen the earring on the top of the toilet if it looked like an earring.
As if these aspects of the game weren’t difficult enough, death is seemingly around every corner anyway. Go too far down the street and you fall to your death at a worksite with no warning. Every time I run into the “nice looking lady”, no matter what I try to do, she shoots me point blank. This isn’t really a game that you can use careful, logical thinking, and make it through unscathed. It’s a game where you learn harsh lessons, reload, and through trial and error, make progress one step at a time. There was one other issue that I was all set to complain about, and that’s cash. I was running out of funds really quickly, and given that you need to pay cab drivers constantly, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how I was going to get any further. Thankfully, I’ve just figured out that you can gamble at the casino and within a couple of goes on the pokies will win enough to not have to worry about it for a while.

Déjà Vu doesn’t appear to contain any profanity (at least I haven’t come across any yet), but it doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to descriptions and graphically recounting the many ways you can die. Sometimes it’s fairly humorous stuff such as “You’re in a swanky penthouse pad. One look, and you instantly feel that the owner of this place deserves to be shot.” Other times it borders on tasteless, with my personal favourite being “the blood begins to fill your lungs and overflow out of your mouth and nostrils. You realise with horror that you will be found dead without a proper change of underwear”. The nasty tone certainly fits the harshness of the world you’re in though, so this is not a complaint, merely an observation. I’m actually looking forward to discovering a way to pump that “nice looking lady” full of lead!
Yes, I imagine thats the first thing that will run through my mind the day Im shot in the chest.
I’ve still got a couple of leads to go on in my next session, so I don’t have that horrible feeling that you get when you know you’re in for a frustrating time next time you press play. There are currently two doors that I haven’t been able to find keys for and I’m really hoping that a cure for my condition is behind one of them (Doctor Brodie’s office). If I can’t find a solution to the time limit problem soon, I’m likely to start using a bit of profanity of my own, so the language of my next post will probably give you the answer. It probably sounds overly pedantic, but I’m sure I’d find more enjoyment in Déjà Vu if I only had time to sort my inventory in a logical way. If I even try to put all my coins in my wallet, the game will punish me by telling me my condition has deteriorated further and I’d better do something quick before I become a vegetable. OK…a few deep breaths…I’m going to crack this bad boy!
I was kind of hoping to find a box full of keys. What am I going to do with a dead fat lady?

WiiWare -- One new game, Monochrome Racing, an overhead racing game thats (as the title suggests) presented largely in black-and-white. The multiplayer gameplay resembles nothing so much as the old Atari coin-ops Super Bug and Sprint, or maybe Moto Roader on the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16.
Wii Virtual Console -- Nothing here this week. The 3DS seems to be getting all the good vintage (handheld) titles these days.
DSiWare -- Several new titles here, as usual. B-Team - Episode 2: Ice & Venom brings more isometric, humorous squad-based shooting action to the DSi. Go Fetch! 2 is another sequel,with more puppy-based fetching action (really!) and, if the trailer is anything to judge by, the most annoying soundtrack in years. Play & Learn Spanish is a Spanish-language game focusing on practical vocabulary, with illustrations and audio pronunciation examples.
Nintendo 3DS eShop -- Another classic black-and-white 2-D Game Boy title arrives: Marios Picross, still black-and-white and in 2-D. The DSiWare titles listed above are also available on the 3DS.
XBox Live Arcade -- The Summer of Arcade continues with Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, a cartoonish sci-fi shooter by Michel Gagne (Rayman) thats beautifully animated, if a bit brief.
PS3 on PSN -- Two new games this week: Namcos fast-paced arcade update Galaga Legions DX arrives, and Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team brings the original space marines to life in twin-stick shooter action.

WiiWare -- One new game this week, Soccer Up, a simple soccer game with 4-player local multiplayer and Mii support. Theres also a free demo version of Gnomz, a Smash Bros.-style fighter that came out in November.
DSiWare -- Three new titles available for the DSi and 3DS. Doodle Fit is a shape-fitting puzzle game. Rytmik Retrobits is a musical tool for creating loops, beats and tracks in a retro-drum machine style. Chronicles of Vampires: Origins is a hidden-object hunt.
3DS eShop -- Two titles arrive exclusively for the 3DS. TETRIS is the black-and-white Game Boy version of this classic puzzle game; it was the Game Boys killer app when it first came out and is still a great game today. WayForwards Mighty Switch Force! is a 2-D sidescrolling platformer/shooter, with puzzle elements, really nice hand-drawn graphics and action from the folks who brought us Shantae and Contra IV.
XBox Live Arcade -- One new game this week: Trine 2 is a sequel to the Finnish side-scrolling fantasy game; the original never came to XBLA but this worthy sequel is a lot of fun, and supports 2-player co-op fighting and puzzle-solving.
PS3 on PSN -- Two new titles. Sonic CD is the Sega CD-specific Sonic the Hedgehog game; its been re-released in recent years on Sonic compilations, but its good to see this overlooked classic available as a stand-alone title. Apples to Apples brings the categorization-based card game to the PS3 and may be a good choice for family holiday gaming.
PSOne Classics -- Well, its something, I guess. Many families may be nostalgia-suckered into buying Ataris PSX "reimagining" of the classic Centipede, but this awkward 3-D version doesnt hold a candle to the original.
Notable on Steam -- Steams holiday sale is in full swing, with a meta-game featuring special bonus achievements in a variety of games. Ive become a big fan of Steams ability to push me to sample and buy indie games I might otherwise have missed, at very reasonable prices.
